Trekking in Nepal
Nepal is a trekker’s paradise. One can trek along the beaten
trails or virgin tracks in the mountains. There is something
to experience while in trekking trip - the magnificent tumble
of great snow, great ridges carpeted in alpine flowers,
forest of Rhododendrons, isolated hamlets, small mountain
towns, flora and fauna, temples, monasteries, many ethnic
groups of people. Trekking can be organized from March-June
& August-December.
Nepal Helambu Circuit Helambu is the good
trekking destination throughout October to May. This is
the 7 days trekking that makes a circuit of the Helambu
Region and the easiest starting point for this trek is Sundarijal
due to its proximity to Katmandu. This trek remains at reasonably
low elevation and you should be prepared for cold and possible
snowfall at Tharepati during the winter because there may
be little chance of altitude problem. Here, the number of
trekkers are less than in the Everest, Annapurna or Lang
tang region and good lodges are abundant and uncrowned.
Day 01: Katmandu to Chisopani (2215m) The Helambu treks starts from Sundarijal,
a small dam and hydroelectricity station in the northeast
corner of the Katmandu valley. Then the trail climbs through
wet, subtropical forest to an oak forest and on to Mulkharka.
Mulkharka is a scattered Tamang village, the trail again
ascends through oak forest to a pass called Burlung Bhanjyang.
After Shivapuri ridge, the trail descends to a flat area
known as Hispanic for an overnight stop.
Day 02: Chisopani to Kutumasang (2470m) The trail continues to drop from Hispanic on a
good and sometimes level trail that crosses meadows and
field. Pathibhanjhyang is on a saddle at a bottom of the
ridge at 1770m.Then the trail heads north out of Pathibhnjhyang
along the forested ridge and then descend to a large Chorten,
the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang to another pass at 2620m.This
is a spot from where one can see Gul bhanjhyang clearly.
The trail then descends to Kutumasang at 2470m for an overnight
stop.
Day 03: Kutumasang to Tharepati (3510m) The trail climbs above Kutumasang on a steep ,eroded
trail, mostly through fir and rhododendron forest where
there are no permanent settlement. Then the trail descends
to Magen Goth (3150m).It finally reaches to Tharepati for
an overnight stay.
Day 04: Tharepati to Melamchigaun: (2530m) Descends steeply down a ravine. The vegetation
changes to large firs then to oaks and rhododendron crossing
over a stream on a suspension bridge and the trail makes
a short final climb to reach the prosperous Sharpe village
of Melamchigaun (2530m)
Day 05: Melamchigaun to Tarke Gyang: (2740m) From Melamchigaun the trail continues its descents
to the Melamchi Khola. After crossing the suspension bridge,
the trail begins climbing up the other side of the valley
towards Tarkeghyang. It is a long climb to the picturesque
village at 2600m, which is situated on a shelf high above
the river. Tarke Gyang is the largest village in Helambu
and the destination for the most trekkers in this region.
It is a good place to take a rest.
Day 06: Tarke Gyang to Sermathang:(2590m) From Tarkeghyang the trail makes the sweep around
the head of the wide valley between Prachin and the pretty
village of Gabgwal at around 2500m.The trail drops down
from the edge of the ridge then continues at round the same
altitude along the side of the ridge crossing a number of
streams and waterfalls and a landslide. Finally,it passes
a gompa and reaches the large village of something (2620m)
for an overnight stop.
Day 07: Sermathang to Malamchi bazzar: (870m) From Sermathang the trail follows the ridge all
the way down to Malemchi,a drop of 1790m. After passing
a large Gompa at the southern end of the village the trail
undulates along the west side of the ridge passing Chorten
after Chorten before dropping down to Kakani. From Kakani
the trail drops down to small village Dubochaur (1500m).
From hear the trail continues to descent even more steeply
down the ridge to the junction of the Indrawoti and Malemchi
rivers. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Melamchi
River you will reach the Melamchi Bazaar. From here the
